Interview: Tricia Gosingtian

So, last year (around July, I think) me and my co-editor and former Jr. TG finalist, Ana, got the chance to interview the amazing Tricia Gosingtian. These days, she's basically one of the best and prettiest fashion stylists/bloggers out there. But this wonderwoman is not just a fashion stylist, but she's also a photographer in the making.

I thought posting this interview would help you guys since I just saw my read/view count just topped two thousand! Woot woot! Thanks for reading, must say, I'm really shocked when I checked it.

You’re known for being a fashion blogger and icon, and photographer how’d you manage to do it all?
I always tell people that it's proper time management that does the trick, but I'm not completely innocent of procrastination and lazy days. I make sure, however, to prioritize my more important tasks and work on them before I decide to take a day off or shop with friends. It also helps that I'm a little insomniac too, and that I tend to become extremely workaholic after midnight in the hopes of getting bored with it eventually. But of course, I love my work so that never really happens and I always end up sleeping at 4 in the morning.

At what age did you discover your love for fashion?
Pretty late than most girls nowadays, I think. When I was a teenager, I spent most of my time enjoying books, TV shows and quality time with my family. Fashion only crossed my mind when I discovered Japanese magazines, which were also my inspirations for getting into what I really love - photography.

Do you follow trends? Do you have a favorite trend now?
I do, if I see something I like. I wasn't raised by my parents (who have amazing values, btw - thanks mom and dad!)  like I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth to update my whole wardrobe every season and spend all my money on everything that's "in" (I also like to save money for my photography equipment), so I tend to invest on classic pieces which I know will last me forever. Right now I'm loving the whole vintage and 60s look, and it's one of the reasons why I chopped 6 inches off my locks a few months ago and got bangs again. I love wearing ensembles that look like from another time!

What's your favorite clothes ensemble?
I have some sort of uniform every time I get lazy to think of what to wear: skinny jeans, a black or white loose top, black heels and some accessories. This never fails me!

Do you have a certain style?
Sophisti-cute. It's a term I coined for mixing classic pieces with hints of cutesyness. Most of what I see from Japanese fashion is this, and it's absolutely endearing to flip through magazines and see how they put together pieces so effortlessly without being over the top. It's a relatable style that's inspired by not only modern trends but also personal style and quirkiness.

What's your inspiration for your oufits?
Japanese fashion, definitely. Saying that I'm a huge fan of Japanese magazines is an understatement. I follow ViVi and Popteen religiously and I could even tell you the names of the models if you pointed at some random page.

What do you think is next for the world of fashion?
I have no idea. Fashion is something that's unpredictable, which is what makes it so exciting.

What advice would you give readers for finding fashion on a budget? Any suggestions for tweens on fashion trends that will surely be fit for their age?
A common misconception of tweens nowadays is that you have to stick out like a sore thumb and explicitly show that you're following a trend in order to be seen as the most fashionable person in school or in the community. Being fashionable is not exactly having to look avant-garde or over-the-top all the time, since there are so many trends - there are some that cater to ordinary people who can more or less replicate runway looks without having to purchase big brands. It has a lot to do with inspiration, and being inspired to dress up, as well as being inspired by not only trends but also even the most mundane things around us. It's possible to be inspired by something as random as citrus fruits, and come up with a color-blocking ensemble reminiscent of the recent runway trend, only using clothes from local retail stores or tiangges.
